List five things you do for fun.
“Finding Joy in Life’s Little Pleasures: My Top Five Fun Activities”
In the bustling routine of life, finding moments of joy is not merely a luxury; it is a necessity. Despite my responsibilities as a retired Principal and an author, I cherish indulging in activities that keep my soul alight with laughter, curiosity, and peace. Allow me to share my five favourite ways to have fun.
1. Singing My Heart Out
Music has always been my solace and my companion. I enjoy singing Hindustani Classical music, gospel hymns, and golden-era Bollywood songs, particularly those by Mukesh. Whether I am harmonising with my keyboard or simply humming a Jim Reeves classic, music fills my heart with unbridled joy. There’s a unique magic in losing oneself to melodies, as if every note is a thread stitching life’s scattered pieces together.
2. Exploring the Great Outdoors
The adventurer in me revels in the embrace of nature. Be it cycling through the serene countryside, trekking amidst the hills, or rafting down a roaring river, these escapades energise me. Each activity offers a refreshing perspective on life, as if nature whispers, “There’s always more to discover.”
3. Revelling in Literary Adventures
Books are my constant companions, and reading is a door to endless worlds. From Indian mythology to philosophical musings, a good book is both a teacher and an entertainer. Writing my own stories, including those in my books like The Legend of Inara Wali, further fuels my passion. Losing oneself in words is as thrilling as embarking on a physical journey.
4. Capturing Culinary Mishaps
My culinary escapades, though often catastrophic, bring laughter and unforgettable memories. From burnt cakes to undercooked quails, the kitchen becomes my stage for unscripted comedy. It’s these moments of trial and error, often followed by hearty chuckles with family, that make cooking an unexpected source of fun.
5. Dancing to Life’s Rhythm
Nothing beats the sheer joy of spontaneous dancing, especially with family. One memorable day, we turned our car into a dance floor during a countryside drive—a car-o-bar, if you will. The freedom to sway, twirl, and laugh with loved ones is pure bliss, proof that the simplest moments can be the most exhilarating.
Final Thoughts
Fun need not always be grand or extravagant. It resides in the simple, heartfelt moments we create for ourselves. Whether it’s through a soulful song, a bookish adventure, or a comical cooking disaster, these activities remind me that life’s essence lies in embracing joy, no matter where it comes from.
What about you? How do you embrace fun in your life?
